Let's begin!

You can either drag and drop your image in Photoshop, or you can go to File > Open and select the image you want to edit. In this example, I clicked the file from my Recent files since I’ve opened it on Photoshop recently.

There are many methods to remove a background, but for this project, we will use the Magic Eraser Tool by selecting it from the tool bar on the left or by using the keyboard shortcut (E). This method is best used on a simplistic image (e.g. logo) on a solid colored background; it is also important to note that once you erase the background, you will not be able to retreive it later.

Using the Magic Eraser tool, click on the part of the image that you want to remove. In this case, we will click the black background, and just like magic, it erased! You can either save this logo as a .png (with a transparent background), or you can put in another image behind the logo! The possibilities are endless, and it really depends on what you are creating. If you want to stop here, go to File > Export > Quick Export as PNG.

Import your image of the new background by dragging the image into your Photoshop document. Adjust the size of the background image so it covers the entire canvas size. Side note: make sure you hold down ‘shift’ as you resize to ensure you are not stretching the image.

After you’ve resized the background image, drag the layer (in your Layers panel) and place the background image underneath the logo. When you are satisfied with your work, go to File > Export > Export As and save it as a .jpg to your computer.
