Let's begin!

You can either drag and drop your image in Illustrator, or you can go to File > New to create a canvas. In this example, I created a 12.5”x17.5” canvas size because that is the standard size for a t-shirt design, but essentially, you can create any size canvas. Side note: a vectorized image can be scaled to any size and won’t lose image quality.

You can either drag & drop your logo into the doc or select File > Place (shift + command + ‘P’) to select the image you want to vectorize.

With your image selected, click on the drop-down arrow by the Image Trace button at the top, and select Silhouettes. You may also play with the other settings as they all accomplish the same purpose, but for this simple exercise, we will choose Silhouettes.

Once you are happy with the Image Trace, click on the Expand button to make the shape editable. Before you change the color, make sure you Convert to RGB (for digital design) or Convert to CMYK (for print design). In this exercise, we will Convert to RGB.

After you have Converted to RGB colors, you can double-click the foreground color to choose a different color; you can choose a gradient too by selecting the middle icon which activates the gradient effect. Have fun with it!
